Tomato production in Uganda has been limited by bacterial wilt. Choice of tomato variety cultivated is based on fruit quality, adaptability, reliability, and susceptibility to pests and diseases.

The demand for tomatoes in the region in the past has increased tremendously and demand can is met by increasing production area and yield, with better production methods, high yielding and disease resistant varieties of tomatoes plays a key role in keeping market demand.
